Frequently Asked Questions

What is CenterPoint?

CenterPoint Community Church is a new casual, contemporary church in formation in the southeast Winter Haven area. As a supplement to our Vision brochure, we’ve compiled this list of some of the questions we’re asked most frequently.

Why start a new church?

The southeast Winter Haven area is growing. Research shows that people who aren’t active in a church are more likely to get involved in a new church. CenterPoint will offer a new kind of approach and style unique to the region. Many people will find meaningful new ways to connect and contribute.

Why the name CenterPoint?

The name was chosen to reflect our location in the geographic center of central Florida, our focus on life’s priority issues, and our mission to help people discover the point of life and center their lives on what matters most.

Where will CenterPoint be located?

Our target zone is the area between Cypress Gardens, State Farm, and Eagle Ridge Mall. We are focusing first on building people rather than a building. We will be securing leased facilities in the area until the church is established and we are in a position to purchase our own property and begin the building process.  We are presently meeting at the Regal Cinemas 12 at Eagle Ridge Mall.

When will CenterPoint open?

Grand Opening is October 15, 2000. But already there are numerous opportunities for those wanting to get involved—like small groups, social gatherings, community-oriented events, and Preseason/Practice Worship Celebration Services.

Who is CenterPoint’s focus?

Today’s busy, active individuals and families; late 20s-50s; married, single, divorced; many dual income families; households vary with children, teens, empty nesters, or no kids; professionals and business people; people who care about their families, friends, health, and careers, and desire life to be balanced, focused, successful; people who want to grow on a journey and enjoy life to the fullest.

Is CenterPoint non-denominational?

We are a part of the Missionary Church, an evangelical organization committed to church planting and world missions, the Florida District team, and our sponsor Crossroads Community Church in Auburndale. We value the stability, accountability, coaching, resources, and teamwork this affords us. People from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences will feel comfortable partnering with us, giving us the advantages and feel of being non-denominational.

How is CenterPoint funded?

As a new church plant, CenterPoint is initially funded by a combination of contributions raised by our new church development pastor, grants from the Missionary Church Florida District, support from Crossroads, and offerings from those who join with our vision. CenterPoint is a 501(c)3 organization able to receive tax-deductible donations. Building a solid financial giving base is key, as we will be completely self-supporting soon after Grand Opening.

What will CenterPoint’s format be like?

Our Sunday Worship Celebration will be 60-75 minutes in length, and will key in on a relaxing, fun atmosphere, great music, a genuine encounter with God, real-life and helpful Bible instruction you can use, and a variety of elements like stories, media, video, drama, and relational interaction. What happens at CenterPoint will seem natural and normal to you, even if you’ve had little to no church experience. In fact, it’ll be a great place to begin your spiritual journey.

What kind of music will there be?

CenterPoint’s music will be a mix of the best in contemporary music, performed by a live band utilizing a variety of styles including pop, soft rock, oldies, adult contemporary, contemporary Christian, today’s Praise & Worship, smooth jazz, and modern country. The music will be just like you enjoy in everyday life.  We will use mainstream music when appropriate in communicating our message and desired results.

What kind of weekly opportunities will CenterPoint have?

In addition to our Sunday Worship Celebration we plan to offer a quality nursery, a dynamic children’s program, an active youth group, a menu of small group and Bible study choices for adults, fun events for social interaction, and many opportunities for service and community involvement.

How will CenterPoint get started?

We are seeking sharp people to join with us in the adventure of helping make CenterPoint a reality.

Business and community leaders, who can offer their support, input and leads.
Talented and gifted individuals, who might wish to use their abilities in a new way (e.g. musicians, actors, media & tech people).
Christians who are not “plugged into” a church with attendance or involvement.
Interested parties who are seeking for more in life and looking for spiritual fulfillment.
